Brake discs, pads, caliper adapters and conversion kits for Sur-Ron Light Bee and Ultra Bee, Talaria Sting, E-Ride Pro and 79Bike Falcon. The brakes these bikes leave the factory with are usually bicycle components doing motorcycle work — which is why a disc and a fresh set of pads is one of the cheapest upgrades that genuinely changes how the bike rides.

Before you order: any change of disc diameter needs a caliper adapter. A 220 mm disc on a Sur-Ron Light Bee / LBX needs the 220 mm adapter; the 250 mm front disc needs the 250 mm adapter. Stock-size discs — the 200 mm rear, the Ultra Bee set, the Talaria rotors — bolt on without one.

How to choose brakes for a light electric bike

A Sur-Ron, Talaria or E-Ride Pro weighs over 120 kg with a rider and runs to 80 km/h, yet it stops on a rotor sized and thicknessed for a downhill bicycle. Hence the two classic symptoms: a lever that goes soft after a few hard stops, and a disc that starts to run out after a rock strike. There are three answers, and they differ in cost and in how hard they can work.

1. A thicker disc in the stock size

The simplest step. Our discs are 2.3 mm instead of the factory 1.9 mm — 25% more material, more heat capacity, far less warping. Bolts onto the factory caliper, no adapter. The right call for a stock bike ridden recreationally.

2. More diameter: 220 mm

A longer lever arm is a real step up in stopping power and lets you brake with one finger. In the floating version (aluminium carrier plus a steel ring on rivets) the disc stays flat when hot and the bite point does not wander on a long descent. Needs a caliper adapter.

3. Maximum: 250 mm up front

The strongest front brake these platforms will take. Watch the fitment: on Sur-Ron, Talaria and Segway the 250 mm only fits after a fork upgrade to Fastace or Rfloxa. On the 79Bike Falcon PRO and GT it mounts to stock forks.

Pads and full-system conversion

Fit a fresh set of pads with every disc change — they bed in together, and only then does the full surface work. We stock ceramic pads for the Light Bee, a set for the Ultra Bee and semi-metallic pads for the Talaria Sting PRO / MX5. If a heavily built Light Bee still cooks its brake with a big disc, the answer is the full Ultra Bee transplant — front kit and rear kit.
