Two-piece and floating — a disc that does not fight its own heat

An ordinary disc is one piece of steel. When it heats up it wants to expand — but it has nowhere to go, so it warps. This disc is built differently: a black aluminium carrier and a separate steel braking ring, joined by rivets that let the ring move. The steel can expand without forcing stress into the centre. It is a race-bike design, scaled to 220 mm for the Sur-Ron.
What the floating design gives you
Heat escapes faster
The aluminium carrier sheds heat far better than steel. The braking ring has somewhere to dump temperature instead of choking on it.
No warping when hot
The rivets let the steel expand freely relative to the centre. Where a one-piece disc starts to run out of true, this one stays flat.
A lever that keeps its bite point
This is the part you feel. On a long descent the lever does not sink or go soft — you brake the same at the bottom as at the top.
Less unsprung mass
An aluminium centre weighs less than solid steel. The wheel follows bumps more easily and the suspension has less to control.

Both are 220 mm and both need a 220 mm caliper adapter. If your stock disc holds up but wears fast, the one-piece version is enough. If the lever starts going soft three minutes into a descent, this is the disc. If you are doing both axles, the front and rear are linked below together with the correct adapters.

A 220 mm caliper adapter is required
If your bike came with a smaller disc, a 220 mm diameter needs a caliper adapter — without it the caliper will not line up with the braking ring. The Sur-Ron LBX always needs one. Link below.
Questions people actually ask
Does a floating disc rattle?
A little play at the rivets is normal for this design — at a standstill you may hear a faint tick when you move the wheel. That is not a fault, it is exactly the movement that keeps the disc from warping. You hear nothing while riding.
Is it worth paying more than the one-piece version?
It depends how you ride. If you brake in short bursts and rarely load the rear, no — the 2.3 mm one-piece is enough. If you do long descents, ride hard, or weigh more and feel the lever going soft towards the bottom of a hill, then yes, this is a difference you can feel.
Do stock pads fit?
Yes, same caliper and pad type. Fit fresh pads with a new disc — they will bed in more evenly.
Do I need an adapter?
For 220 mm, yes, if your bike came with a smaller disc. The Sur-Ron LBX always needs one. The adapter is linked below.
Does this fit the front?
No, this is the rear disc. For the front we have a separate large 250 mm disc — linked below.
What exactly do I order to build the full set?
Four items: this 220 mm rear disc, the 250 mm front disc, the 220 mm caliper adapter for the rear, and the front adapter for the 250 mm disc. The adapters are different — the front 250 mm one will not replace the rear 220 mm one. All four are linked below. If you would rather start with one axle, start at the front — that is where most of the braking happens.
