ERT3 stands for Exclusive Racing Technology – a non O-ring build designed for MX machines up to 450cc. No seals means the lowest internal drag in the D.I.D range: less power eaten by the drivetrain, sharper throttle response. The trade-off is more frequent lubrication than a sealed chain. That is a deliberate racing choice, not a cost saving.
Tensile strength 8,300 lbs (approx. 37 kN) at 2.99 lbs per 100 links. Even with a tuned controller the Ultra Bee works far below the torque of a 450cc combustion motocrosser, so this chain is heavily over-specified for the job – which translates directly into service life.
98 or 102 links?
| Version | When | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 98 links | Stock rear sprocket or smaller | Shorter wheelbase, adjuster near the start of its range |
| 102 links | Oversized rear sprocket (e.g. 54T) or 21" wheel with the axle moved back | Room for a longer wheelbase and adjustment |
| Not sure | Count the links on your current chain | The only reliable method – count links, not centimetres |
Critical: 520 is not interchangeable with 420. The Sur-Ron Light Bee runs a 420 drivetrain – this chain does NOT fit it.

Sur-Ron Ultra Bee520 drivetrainNOT for Light Bee (420)
Before you order
- Count the links on your current chain – this is the only reliable way to choose.
- Confirm your bike runs a 520 drivetrain. The Light Bee runs 420 and this chain will not fit.
- Going to a larger rear sprocket usually needs a longer chain.
- A non O-ring chain needs lubricating more often than a sealed one – plan for it.
Frequently asked
Why no O-rings?
Because seals create drag. ERT3 is a racing build – it delivers maximum power to the wheel at the cost of more frequent lubrication. If you ride mostly on tarmac and want to forget about maintenance, a sealed chain is the easier choice.
Does it fit the Sur-Ron Light Bee?
No. The Light Bee runs a 420 drivetrain. This is a 520 chain and physically will not sit on 420 sprockets.
Can I shorten it?
Yes, but you need a chain breaker/riveter. Do not force it – a damaged link becomes the weakest point in the whole drivetrain.
How often should I lube it?
After every hard off-road session and after any contact with water or mud. A non-sealed chain has no grease trapped in the bushings.
