Anti-dirt cover for the rear shock absorber / damper sock, Surron LBX, Talaria Sting, ERIDE PRO, 76BIKE

fabric with a rubber inner layer · hook-and-loop, fits without tools

A rear shock does not fail from working. It fails from the grit that gets between the shaft and the seal and scores the chrome on every stroke. Then the seal stops holding, the oil escapes and the damping is gone. This sock is the cheapest thing standing between your shock and that story.

Made from tough fabric with a rubber inner layer — mud and water do not get through to the other side. It closes with hook-and-loop, so it goes on and comes off without tools and without removing the shock. After a muddy ride you take it off, rinse it and put it back.

What it actually does

Keeps grit off the shaft
Grit is what scores the chrome and ends the seal. Water alone does not hurt a shock — what travels in the water does.
Smoother suspension action
A clean shaft slides through the seal without drag. You notice it most after the first few muddy rides.
Hook-and-loop, no tools
You do not remove the shock or take the linkage apart. It closes in place.
Removable for washing
The sock is meant to be dirty instead of the shock. Take it off, rinse, refit.
Before you buy — two things stated plainly
A sock does not replace washing. Leave it caked in wet mud for a week and it will hold moisture against the shock instead of protecting it. The rule is simple: after a muddy ride, take it off and rinse it. Five minutes. Second: the manufacturer does not state the material composition or the sock dimensions. It states the construction (fabric plus rubber inner layer), the hook-and-loop fitting and the list of fitting models. If you run an aftermarket shock with a piggyback reservoir, message us before ordering and we will check whether the sock will rub against it.

Three things from experience
  • Fit it to a clean, dry shock. Grit sealed under the sock acts like sandpaper — worse than no sock at all.
  • After the first ride, check the sock does not rub the spring or the frame at full compression.
  • At the end of the season, take it off and look at the shaft. Smooth, unscored chrome means the sock did its job.

Frequently asked questions

Will it stop the shock cooling?
For trail and enduro riding, no. On long, hard race descents the shock does run warmer under a sock than without one; that is a trade-off worth weighing for that kind of riding.
Does it fit a shock with a piggyback reservoir?
It depends on the reservoir shape. Message us with the shock model and we will check before shipping rather than guess.
Can I machine wash it?
The manufacturer does not say. The safe route is rinsing with water and drying in the shade. Heat can delaminate the rubber layer.
