96 Power Parts Chain-to-Belt Drive Conversion Kit for Surron Light Bee

quiet, maintenance-free drive · +4 mm tyre clearance · Sur-Ron Light Bee

This kit converts the final drive of the Sur-Ron Light Bee from chain to toothed belt. The reason people do it is simple: a chain has to be cleaned, lubed and tensioned, a belt needs none of that. On top of that the bike gets noticeably quieter — the metallic whirr that is the only thing you hear riding through a housing estate disappears.

The second effect is less obvious: the conversion frees up an extra 4 mm of tyre clearance. With a wide rear tyre that can be the difference between rubbing the swingarm and fitting. The kit matches the standard Light Bee gearing, so you do not have to work out sprocket ratios again.

What you get and what to expect

Complete conversion kit
Pulley, mounting hardware and the parts needed to modify the swingarm — all in the box.
Swingarm modification
If you run the original swingarm it has to be modified. The parts for that modification are included.
Stock gearing
The kit matches standard Light Bee gearing — no sprocket maths.
Before you buy — the belt is NOT included
This conversion needs an HTD-8M-1440-12 belt. It is not in the box and we do not currently stock it — you buy it separately. We say so plainly so you do not find out with the drive already stripped. One thing to avoid confusing: our Gates belt #187 is the primary belt, between motor and jackshaft — a different part that does not fit this conversion. Second point: with the original swingarm, modification is required. That is workshop work, not bolt-on.

Three things before you start
  • Buy the HTD-8M-1440-12 belt before you strip the drive. Without it the bike sits in pieces.
  • Have the swingarm modified in a workshop with a mill, or by someone who has done it before. This is not a hand-file job.
  • While the drive is apart anyway — check the primary belt and the jackshaft bearings. You will not want to go back in there a second time.

Frequently asked questions

Is the belt included?
No. You need an HTD-8M-1440-12 and you buy it separately — we do not stock it at the moment.
Do I have to modify the swingarm?
With the original swingarm, yes. The parts for the modification are in the kit, but the work still has to be done.
Will I lose acceleration?
The kit keeps standard Light Bee gearing, so the character stays the same. You gain on noise and maintenance without giving up ratio.
