Fork or Shock First? Suspension Upgrade Order for Sur-Ron and Talaria

Short answer: shock first, fork second

If you are buying one part, start at the rear. The RFLOXA RAB53RV is the cheaper step, bolts to the stock mounting points and gives you compression and rebound adjustment with a reservoir. The Hawk32 fork is step two — more front-end control, but also a bigger spend. If you ride hard, the end goal is both, because suspension works as a set.

Rear: RFLOXA RAB53RV (265 mm)

  • Shock with external reservoir, 265 mm eye-to-eye.
  • Compression and rebound adjustment — set it for your weight and riding style.
  • Fits: Sur-Ron LBX/L1E, Talaria MX3/MX4/XXX/MX5, E-Ride Pro S/SS/SR, 79Bike Falcon, Altis Sigma.
  • Does not fit the Sur-Ron Ultra Bee — that bike has its own shock in our range.

Front: RFLOXA Hawk32

  • 37 mm inverted fork, 203 mm travel, 60 lbs spring.
  • Compression, rebound and preload adjustment, 750 mm axle-to-crown.
  • Fits: Sur-Ron LBX/LBS/L1E, Talaria MX3/MX4, E-Ride Pro S/SS.
  • The 60 lbs spring is not for everyone — choose by your weight and ask us if you are unsure.

How to pick the order

  • Rear packs down or bottoms out on landings and bumps — shock first.
  • Front dives under braking and wanders in corners — fork first (and check your brakes while you are there).
  • Limited budget — shock now, fork next season.
  • Riding aggressively off-road — do both eventually so front and rear stay balanced.
  • Own an Ultra Bee — pick parts from the category made for that model.

First set-up after fitting

  • Set sag for the rider's weight with gear on.
  • Start with compression and rebound in the middle of their range.
  • Slow the rebound until the wheel stops bouncing back after a bump.
  • Change one thing at a time, one click at a time.
  • After about 50 km, re-torque the axle and mounting bolts.

Fitting in short

  1. Disconnect the battery and put the bike on a stand so the wheel is off the ground.
  2. Remove the stock part and fit the new one on the stock mounting points.
  3. Tighten with a torque wrench to the specified torque.
  4. Before riding, cycle the suspension by hand through its full travel and check nothing rubs.
  5. Set sag, do a short test ride, then adjust one click at a time.

Frequently asked questions

Will it fit my bike?
Check the fitment table on the product page. The RAB53RV does not fit the Sur-Ron Ultra Bee.

Which spring rate should I choose?
The Hawk32 comes with a 60 lbs spring. Choose by your weight with gear on, and message us if you are between rates.

Do I have to upgrade both at once?
No. Start with the shock, ride on it, then decide about the fork.
