Chain adjuster bolts, titanium

Bolts you can undo without a fight every time you set the chain.

You undo the adjuster bolts more often than any others on the bike, because an electric drivetrain stretches a chain quickly. And those exact bolts sit in the mud behind the rear wheel. A steel bolt is seized after two seasons, and undoing it ends with a sheared head and a drill.

The threads on these bolts are rolled, not cut. That is not marketing detail: rolling makes the material grain follow the thread profile instead of being severed, so the bolt takes a higher torque and holds clamping force better. With a cut thread, every turn of the helix is a broken grain line.

Let us be honest about titanium: on bolts this size the weight saving is tiny and you will not feel it in the handling. The real reasons are corrosion resistance and the fact that a titanium bolt will not seize into aluminium after a muddy season. If all you want is a lighter bike, spend the money elsewhere.

Where does the play in a Sur-Ron suspension come from?

The factory bolts have a wide dimensional spread. Some bikes end up with a tight joint, others have noticeable play from new. A precision set made to a narrow tolerance removes that spread.

Is titanium stronger than steel?

Not in absolute terms. Titanium has a better strength-to-weight ratio and it does not corrode — those are the real reasons it is used here. The strength of a good steel bolt is already sufficient.

What do rolled threads give me?

Will I feel the weight difference?
