Coopop Rugged GS

L1e homologation · removable 1,440 Wh battery · folding handlebar · 40–42 kg

The Coopop Rugged GS is an electric moped with L1e homologation — number plate, legal road use and 45 km/h. In most of the EU you can ride it from 15 with an AM licence, and a category B car licence also covers it. Hub motor rated 1,200 W with a 1,900 W peak, 48 V / 30 Ah battery, hydraulic disc brakes front and rear.

Three things decide who this vehicle is actually for: the handlebar folds down to 860 mm, the battery comes out so you can charge it in a flat, and the whole thing weighs 40–42 kg. It is a machine for commuting, for a camper, a boat, a holiday house — not for off-road. We put that up front so nobody orders it expecting a dirt bike.

What this vehicle genuinely suits

Commuting without a motorcycle licence
45 km/h, plate, L1e homologation. AM licence from 15, or an ordinary car licence.
Camper, boat, holiday house
The handlebar folds to 860 mm — it goes where a scooter no longer fits.
Charging indoors
The 1,440 Wh battery lifts out. No garage socket and no extension lead through a window.
Town and light gravel
Knobbly tyres, hydraulic brakes, sprung front. The rear is rigid — that is where off-road ends.
Before you buy — one sentence that will save you a return
This vehicle is sprung at the front only. The rear is rigid. The tyres look off-road and that is the styling intent, but mechanically this is a machine for tarmac, paving and packed gravel — not for holes, roots and jumps. If you want something for real terrain, scroll down: we link a road-legal Sur-Ron with full suspension. The manufacturer states neither wheel and tyre size nor an IP rating — only “splash-proof”, so a pressure washer is out.

Four things before the first ride
  • Register the vehicle and arrange insurance before you take it on the road — an L1e is a registered vehicle, not a scooter toy.
  • Charge the battery at room temperature. 1,440 Wh in a cold garage charges slower and ages faster.
  • Do not use a pressure washer. The manufacturer claims splash resistance only, not an IP rating.
  • The first time you fold the bar, check the cables have slack — at 860 mm folded the loom sits differently than it did in the crate.

Frequently asked questions

Can I ride it off-road?
No. It is sprung at the front only, the rear is rigid. Light gravel yes, dirt riding no — for that we sell a road-legal Sur-Ron, linked below.
What licence do I need?
An AM licence from 15. A category B car licence also entitles you to ride an L1e vehicle.
What range will I actually get?
The manufacturer says up to 60 km, the German dealer up to 50 km. In practice it depends on rider weight, temperature and how long you hold 45 km/h. We publish both figures because we are not going to promise you the higher one.
Can I carry a passenger or shopping?
This is where the sources diverge most: the manufacturer states a 136 kg payload, gruber-parts.com states 96 kg. If you plan to ride near the upper limit, message us and we will get an answer from the manufacturer before shipping.
