Polymer swingarm guard

It is meant to wear out instead of the swingarm. Sur-Ron Ultra Bee.

The swingarm on an electric dirt bike takes hits from two sides at once. From below come stones off the front wheel, and from above — your own boots. Riding standing and every time you put a foot down, the sole rubs exactly the same spot. After a season you can see it from across the garage.

This guard is made of polymer, and that is deliberate. A soft material absorbs the impact and the scuffing instead of passing it on. It is supposed to wear out — that is its job. Replacing it costs a fraction of a respray or a new swingarm.

Why polymer and not aluminium?

Because the guard is meant to absorb the hit, not pass it on. Polymer flexes and abrades; an aluminium guard would simply dent along with the swingarm — and you would have one more part to replace.

Will the guard wear out?

Yes, and that is the point. It is a wear part: it abrades instead of the swingarm paint. Replacing it costs a fraction of a respray.

Will it protect the swingarm from hitting a rock?
