The stock footrest mounting points can crack under hard landings and aggressive riding. The spacer ties both mounts together, so the load is shared instead of bending each side separately.

Is it hard to install?

Yes — it reinforces the mounts on the frame side and doesn't interfere with the pegs themselves.
