Sur-Ron swingarm +45 mm — what a longer wheelbase really changes
Lengthening the swingarm is one of the oldest tricks in off-road motorcycling — a longer wheelbase calms the bike down at speed and under hard acceleration. On a Sur-Ron Light Bee that pulls far harder than stock after a controller or battery upgrade, you feel the difference on the first ride. Here is what +45 mm actually changes, how the 96 Power Parts swingarm is built, and what to keep in mind when fitting it.
What a longer wheelbase does
A longer swingarm moves the rear wheel back, shifting weight distribution forward relative to the rear axle. In practice:
- A calmer front end under power — the bike is less eager to loft the wheel, so more of the torque turns into drive.
- Stability at speed and on jumps — a longer base reacts less to bumps and hard landings.
- Better rear traction on corner exit.
The trade-off is slightly less agility in tight, technical sections — that is normal geometry, not a flaw in a particular part. At 45 mm the change is clear, but the bike still behaves like a Light Bee.
How the 96 swingarm is built
- 6061-T6 aluminium, CNC machined
- Bolt-together construction — easier to service and to modify later, for example when moving to a belt drive.
- +45 mm over the stock wheelbase.
- Black or black-and-bronze anodising (the 96 signature)

Fitting and chain
Fitting is straightforward, with no cutting or welding. The one thing a longer wheelbase changes is the drive: you need a chain four links longer than stock. Use a new chain in the correct length rather than adding links to the old one — a worn chain is already stretched unevenly and a longer wheelbase brings that out faster.
Note: the chain tensioner parts visible in some photos are a separate product.
