Tires and Wheels for Sur-Ron, Talaria, and E-Ride Motorcycles – Key Information

Tires and Wheels for Sur-Ron, Talaria, and E-Ride Motorcycles – Key Information
1. How Does Weight Affect Motorcycle Performance?
When changing tires or entire wheels, remember that any additional weight impacts the motorcycle’s dynamics. Rotational mass is particularly significant – the greater it is, the more it burdens the motor, reducing acceleration and decreasing range.
For electric motorcycles like Sur-Ron and Talaria, a few extra kilograms won’t drastically affect performance, but excessively heavy tires can impair handling and acceleration. Moreover, weight is not everything – grip is just as important, and a well-chosen tire can provide better control than a lighter but less grippy model.
Our tests show that 16/19 is the best off-road configuration, offering an excellent balance between weight, traction, and durability. 18/21 provides more ground clearance but requires careful tire selection to avoid negatively affecting handling.
2. Choosing Wheels and Tires – What to Consider?
Matching wheels and tires to your riding style is essential. Not every configuration will perform well in all conditions, so it’s worth considering where you ride most often and what you expect from your motorcycle.
-
16/19 – Best for Off-Road Riding
This setup is ideal for off-road use. 16/19 wheels provide excellent handling and high stability, while the wide selection of available tires allows you to find the perfect match for your needs. -
18/21 – Increased Ground Clearance
If you want your motorcycle to be taller and have more ground clearance, the 18/21 setup is a good choice. However, keep in mind that not every tire fits this setup – we recommend 90/100-18, as wider options may negatively affect handling. -
17" SuperMoto – Maximum Grip on Asphalt
If you primarily ride on paved roads, 17" supermoto wheels offer better handling, greater cornering stability, and longer tire lifespan. While not suited for rough terrain, they ensure optimal grip and control on asphalt.

4. Tubeless vs. Traditional Tubes – Which to Choose?
For Sur-Ron and Talaria motorcycles, the Tubeless system offers no significant advantages. 1.5-2 mm tubes provide excellent protection and allow for lower tire pressure.
The Tubliss system, while allowing for lower pressure riding, is not lighter than a standard 2 mm tube and costs $99 plus installation. For most riders, a traditional tube is a more cost-effective option.
5. Why MTB Tires Are a Bad Choice?
MTB tires are designed for bicycles weighing 10-20 kg, not for motorcycles over 70 kg.
Why is it risky?
-
MTB tires have thin sidewalls and may explode under heavy loads.
-
They do not provide adequate traction in demanding conditions.
-
They can crack under the torque generated by the motor.
Don't take the risk! Choose proven motocross, enduro, or trial tires.
